Can your early phase eSource and automation software handle this very simple workflow?

I sketched this out nearly ten years back when thinking about the user requirements for software developers.

This is the exact process I used to follow end-to-end, vein-to-freezer, freezer-to-customer, thirty five years ago when I started out in clinical research.

This is not rocket science, but I am hearing that software solutions touted as being suitable for use in early phase clinical pharmacology research settings, can’t support this basic flow utilising barcoded sample tubes.

I am shocked!

Your chosen solution needs to be able to generate barcodes for any sample expected by the protocol (the example here is for the most basic PK sample processing workflow). For the collection tubes and for the storage tubes. For the storage boxes (or bags), and the freezers themselves.

The system should track all events in real-time from the collection time to the final shipment time, provide information supporting your ‘cold chain’ and come with a robust audit trail.
